Balanced attack brings down the Bison

SPRINGFIELD, MO — The Fighting Irish hosted Buffalo for their annual homecoming came. The Irish were looking to extend their 4-1 record and to keep their COC record spotless. Buffalo came out of the gate quick, driving to ball to the Irish 2-yard line. The Irish D came up strong, denying 4 chances to score. The Irish fumbled the ball on their first offensive possession but the defense came up big yet again, forcing 3 downs and a failed field goal attempt.

From that point forward, the offense was dialed in and never looked back. Tyson Riley completed a 36-yard strike to Lincoln Jones for the games first touchdown. Lincoln Jones brought in his 3rd interception on the year to set up a Tyson Riley 51-yard scamper followed by a successfull 2-point conversion to make the game 14-0. Buffalo's running game was stifled by the Irish run defense but occasional progress when passing. A Buffalo 45 pass with 1:06 remaining in the first brought the game to 14-6.

The Irish continued their offensive assualt in the 2nd quarter and lit up the scoreboard again with a 2-yard td rush by Heath Southwick (Sam Crain kick good, 21-6). Tyson Riley scored again on a quarterback keeper up the middle (Sam Crain kick good) bringing the score to 28-6. The first half was capped off with a beautiful 36-yard play-action touchdown pass to Lincoln Jones (Sam Crain kick good). The half ended at 35-6.

The Irish picked righ back up in the second half. After receiving the kickoff, the Irish moved the ball steadily; scoring on the 7th play of the drive. Tyson Riley ran a read-option right and ran it in from 18 yards behind a trio of green blockers. Sam Crain kicked off to the Bison and the speedy coverage led by Adrian Coulter was able to sprint downfield and recover the kickoff. This led to another 6-play scoring drive capped off by a 2-yard Jacob Straus touchdown run (47-6).

The Irish were able to shif the game into overdrive and saw steady production out of everyone on the field. The home, conference win took the team to 5-1 on the season. The Irish will match up on the road with Hollister next Friday (9/29).
