Irish move to 8-1 and Blue & Gold semi-finals
SPRINGFIELD, MO –– The Irish headed into this years Blue & Gold on a 3-game win streak, receiving a 5-seed in their 16 team Blue bracket. Their first round matchup pit the Irish against Purdy and the team started the tournament with a bang. As a team, Catholic knocked down 10 three-pointers, half of them came from senior Will Squibb. Zach Howell led a scorers with 27, pulling down 9 rebounds in the process. The win set up a 4/5 matchup in the quarterfinals against Skyline, the 2020 MSHSAA Class 2 finalist.
The Irish continued their hot shooting in game 2 of the Blue & Gold converting 10 of 26 shots from beyond the arc. In spite of the hot shooting, the Tigers of Skyline never let the Irish out of their sights, keeping the lead in single digits for most of the game. The difference in this one may have been the free-throw shooting with the Irish converting 21 of 24 from the charity stripe.
The win earns the Irish a rematch with #2 ranked Hartville in the semi-finals. The game will take place at JQH tomorrow at 1:00pm.
