Lady Irish Basketball Secures District Reserve Championship
One of the most successful seasons in recent history has come to a close for the Lady Irish.
The Springfield Catholic Lady Irish received a bye in the first round of the Class 3 District 9 tournament having received the #2 seed with their 17-10 regular season record. Led by seniors Lila Griesemer (16) and Peyton Wiseman (15) with freshman Riley Hein (13), the Lady Irish moved easily passed the 16-11 Sparta Lady Trojans 59-33 on February 27th, 2025 at Seymour High School in Seymour, Missouri.
The Lady Irish advanced to the District Championship game for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. They would face an all too familiar foe, the Fair Grove Lady Eagles. The Class of 2025 Catholic and Fair Grove basketball girls have gone head to head since their careers began at The Courts as second graders. They know each others' strengths and weaknesses and the Irish were mentally prepared for a battle. Fair Grove boasts back-to-back Class 3 Missouri State Championships as well as a seasoned starting line-up including three 4-year Varsity starters, and two 2-year starters.
The Lady Irish surprised Fair Grove with a strong start, trailing by only 6 at the half. Fair Grove's Abby Green poured in 10 of her game-high 14 points in the 3rd quarter to open it up. The Lady Irish got back on track in the 4th to match Fair Grove in scoring that quarter but came up short and fell 32-48 to the eventual 2025 Class 3 State Champion Lady Eagles.
The Lady Irish finished the 2024-25 season 17-11.
