2nd place District finish move Lady Irish to Sectionals

The Catholic girls golf team advanced through district play on Monday at Whispering Oaks golf course in Marshfield, MO. In just the second year of the program, the Irish team has improved steadily throughout the season. The girls won the MSU Relays and took 2nd in the COC tournament in the past two weeks.

The team is lead by Sophomore Kayla Pfitzner but coach Frank Gallant extends credit to the team for their recent improvement.

"We've had solid play all year long from our number one girl Kayla Pfitzner and our number two Allison Berke. But we were struggling in the three, four and five spots," said Gallant. "But we've seen vast improvement in those spots over the past few weeks. That's because the girls occupying those spots- Ellen Moore, Brooke Newhouse and Cate Schnoebelen have been working really hard. Their efforts have made us very competitive at the right time of the year."

Team results:
Kayla Pfitzner- 78
Allison Berke- 90
Ellen Moore- 92
Brooke Newhouse- 107
Cate Schnoebelen- 113

Phitzner lead the field with a 78 to take top honors in the tournament. This was the 5th tournament victory of the season for her.

The team will now advance to compete at the sectional tournament next Monday in Nevada.
